Top of Descent Calculator

This app collects no data about you, makes no network connections of its own, and stores one thing on your device: that you have read its disclaimer.

What this app stores

On your device only, and only one thing: a single yes/no flag recording that you tapped "I understand" on the disclaimer the app shows the first time it opens. That is what stops it asking again every launch. It holds no other information — not what it asked, not when you answered, and nothing about you.

Nothing else is kept, including the numbers you type. This app is a calculator rather than a course, so it has no progress to keep and no score to remember. The altitudes and speeds you enter live only as long as the app is open; close it and it starts again at its defaults. There is no account and no identifier.

The flag is written to your device's own storage and nowhere else. It is never sent anywhere, because the app makes no network connections at all. Deleting the app removes it, and reinstalling shows you the disclaimer again.

What this app does not do

Links to other apps

The More from AutoPilot screen lists the other apps in this family and links to the App Store and to flywithautopilot.com. Tapping one hands that link to your browser or to the App Store app. The app itself sends nothing: no identifier, no numbers you entered, nothing about you travels with that link. Once the page is open, that site's privacy practices apply rather than this one's.

Support

Questions, bugs, or a number you think the app has wrong: admin@flywithautopilot.com. Say which screen, and include the altitudes and speeds you had entered along with your device and iOS version.

Top of Descent Calculator works out where a descent has to begin and how fast it has to come down — feet per nautical mile, feet per minute, the angle that makes, and the point on the profile where you start down. It is a planning aid. It is not a navigation source, and it is no substitute for the published procedure or for your clearance: the chart, ATC and your aircraft's own performance decide what you actually fly. Fly the airplane first.
